Allergy testing

I have a rash on my neck for over two years. It goes up and down in various intensity. It used to itch but not any more. I meant to go to my GP but I never got around to do it. 2 and half years down the line, I still have it to some degree on my neck. I now think it's an allergy to something and it recently clicked with me that maybe it might be wool. I like wool scarves. I wasn't wearing my wool scarf all throughout January and recently when I changed back to the wool scarf last week, the rash became more pronounced. This leads me to suspect maybe its wool. I wore wool socks for a day last year and my feet were very sore at the end of the day. Now I think maybe it's wool that's aggrievating the rash and maybe an allergy to wool. I stopped wearing the wool scarf and I am taking an anti histamine tablet now and the rash has gone down considerably.

I wonder if I have an allergy to wool? Will my gp take me seriously or will I need private testing or will I just continue with my own observations and keep away from wool.

I would expect it's more an irritation, which is not uncommon, rather than an allergy, certainly nothing that needs testing, you just need to avoid wool, though superfine merino would probably be fine if you want the benefits of wool without the itch:
