Erythromycin

Started a course of Erythromycin yesterday for a tooth infection. Feeling really unwell with nausea and headache today, sitting as still as I can as every movement makes me feel like I’m going to be sick.
Can anybody advise whether the side effects wear off soon, or whether I’m going to feel like this for the next five days? 🤮
Thanks.

It made me feel a bit sick too. I found it came and went a bit though, it wasn't constant. You are taking them with food aren't you? That does make a big difference to the sickness level for me - nausea instead of actual puking!

katseyes7 · 29/01/2023 18:51

I never managed to keep it down long enough for it to have any beneficial effect on me. Threw it up within half an hour of taking it, almost in it's original form.

Definitely make sure you’re taking it with food. I took one dose on an empty stomach in error and it was horrendous. Other than that though I had no issues with it

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 29/01/2023 21:42

I can't take it at all, makes me really sick.

crossstitchingnana · 29/01/2023 22:30

Yes, I vomit on it.

CoodleMoodle · 29/01/2023 22:34

I can't take it at all, it's on my notes now. It made me so sick and I had this overwhelming sense of panic, almost doom. I stopped taking them after two days and begged for something else, went back to normal as soon as I stopped.

Hope you feel better soon OP Flowers

I found taking them with yoghurt really helped with the nausea - and as other people have suggested on a full stomach otherwise it’s dreadful. Hope you feel better soon!

Noname99 · 29/01/2023 23:48

Another one here who just can’t take them at all. Go back to GP and get an alternative if you can

Tilllly · 30/01/2023 00:08

I'm allergic to it - there's lots of alternatives

handsoffate · 30/01/2023 00:13

I can’t take it either, they can give you an alternative.

thaegumathteth · 30/01/2023 00:44

Neither of my kids can stomach them at all. However you could try asking for anti sickness tablets?

Dropzonefourpleaseben · 30/01/2023 07:49

Thanks all. Yes, I took them with food as instructed, but it’s been a rough 24 hours tbh. It’s the second round of antibiotics I’ve been prescribed for this problem and unfortunately, they have both made me feel worse than the original toothache, while not shifting the infection. The tooth has to come out, but only when the infection has cleared up so I’m going round in circles.

Talk to the GP. There's a website where people record reactions to drugs and the erythromycin section is horrific. I had a terrible reaction to them - the GP gave me a different form of penicillin.
