Hi! So to cut a long story short I have 2 children, 11 & 9 and have been ttc for around 5 years now. In that time I've had one miscarriage. The past 3 years or so I've had extremely heavy and clotted periods, which is really depressing! Past few months I've noticed that my periods have become more painful and I've been getting sharp pains in my left ovary. I recently had a transvaginal scan and have found out I have a 5cm dermoid cyst. I've now been referred to gynaecology.

Has anyone else been suffering with infertility and heavy periods due to having a dermoid cyst? I have read that it doesn't usually affect fertility, but I have a feeling that mine is and is causing the heavy periods.

Hi there,

I had my dermoid cyst removed about 14 years ago it had twisted. & took along my ovary & fallopian tube. Consultant said it was so big he couldnt be bothered weigh or measure it....it over filled the surgical dish.
Iv still got the same symptoms now. You are experiencing..They didn't find mine untill after 2nd child (Got infection)
I think it complicated my first labour though.

Daughter had hers removed yesterday was measuring at 12mm.
Luckily she's still git her reproductive organs left.

But I didn't realise it was hereditary!
How are you getting on? They can grow quite quickly. Good luck!
