Raised red spot

Sweet89 · 27/01/2023 23:03

I have had a raised red spot near my armpit between the skin fold for possibly almost a year now, I woke up a couple of months ago because it was super itchy and it had also scabbed over? That was a few months ago and it's not bothered me since. I will make an appointment with my doctor next week but I will attach a picture if anyone could possible relate or tell me if it looks potentially suspicious? Thank you xx

What have you tried so far? Fungal cream or antiseptic?

Sweet89 · 27/01/2023 23:12

I haven't tried anything as of yet because other than a couple of occasions where its been itchy, and because of its location I never really notice it. I was going to try sudacrem until I can see my doctor. What do you think it could be? It doesn't look raised in the picture but it is raised, red and round but nothing will come out of it x

I'd try sudocrem and see if it helps but then antifungal cream . I'd see the pharmacist before the GP tbh.

Sweet89 · 27/01/2023 23:55

I will try that and hope it goes, worried about it being C! Worried out of my mind

Get it checked out if using creams and seeing the pharmacist doesn't help but looks like a spot/irritation. Why are you worried now if it's been there so long with no issue?

Sweet89 · 28/01/2023 00:03

Because spots that don't heal after a while are suspicious, at least that's what I thought, but I suppose if it hasn't grown and isn't causing any issues then its likely nothing serious, but I become very obsessive and anxious about my health from time to time, and this is currently what I am obsessing over, and of course Google doesn't help either. I will try what you suggested and thank you for your help and advice 😊

Underwire digging or rubbimg a spot?

I have something similar on my temple, which has been diagnosed as basal cell carcinoma, the slowest growing, least invasive type of skin cancer. I’m on a waiting list of about a year to have it removed, which I’m taking as a good sign! Hopefully would be quicker, if considered serious. Mine has also scabbed over several times, then returned to being a red spot. I probably would have ignored it, if it hadn’t been in such an obvious place. I wouldn’t worry, op. Yours might not be the same as mine, but even if it is, once removed, that’s usually an end of it, so I’ve been told (by consultants!) Definitely get it checked by your gp.

I've checked to see if my bra reaches where the spot is but it doesn't quite reach it so i doubt it would be that, but the spot is situated near the arm pit and where my arm naturally rests so could be friction irritating it too?

Oh I'm so sorry to hear about your diagnosis watcherintherye! I wish all the best to you. If you don't mind can I ask you some questions?

Thank you! The doctors I have seen have been very reassuring, almost downplaying it. Yes of course, fire away!

Sweet89 · 28/01/2023 00:52

Thank you, I appreciate it!
mine has been there for almost a year and only itched once or twice and scabbed once, the spot is quite firm and has a slightly red border around it. What symptoms did you have? How often was yours scabbing/itching and did it grow? And how long did you have it before you saw your doctor. Sorry for all the questions I'm just worried out of my mind.

I honestly wouldn’t worry. I think I was a bit shocked at first by the ‘c’ word, but all the doctors I’ve spoken to have been at great pains to downplay it.

I think I’d had it for about a year before I went to the gp. In that time the spot had almost disappeared once, but then returned. I didn’t really take it seriously until it scabbed a bit and didn’t seem to be healing. I got referred to the hospital fairly quickly, and they would have done the removal procedure within several months but when I was told about the length of the potential scar (on my face) I stupidly got cold feet and cancelled, while I made enquiries about a different removal procedure I’d heard about! Long story short, I’m now back on the (now longer) waiting list for the original excision procedure.

My spot sounds very similar to yours - firm to the touch with a red border. It’s scabbed several times and last time the scab stayed for months, buts it’s now back to the red spot. It does itch occasionally, but I put germolene on it which seems to soothe it! I think it has got slightly larger, but very slowly, bearing in mind I’ve had it for roughly 2 years now.

Sorry for the essay! Please try not to worry. Easier said than done, I know. Hope you get your spot sorted soon, whatever the cause, and feel free to ask any other questions!

Sweet89 · 28/01/2023 22:03

I hope you can get it removed soon and wish you all the very best! And thank you again, if I can think of anymore questions I will comment here if you wouldn't mind checking in here and there. I will give an update when I've seen the Dr ect :)
