Slightly raised markers - am panicking

Can anyone help talk me down...I've had this sensation of a lump under my left rib cage and going all the way round to my back and it's quite painful at times. GP not interested and didn't examine me physically but sent me for a blood test yesterday, Now I've had a call saying I have slightly raised inflammation markers and anemia and that I need to go back on Monday morning. For reference I also have a fistula which is playing up and needs surgery (on waiting list)

I have severe health anxiety so avoid doctors and hospital at all costs usually. I'm now convincing myself it's something really serious like cancer and can't shake the idea. I need to go and get my kids from school but am in such a state over it. Has anyone else had this come up before?

Thanks in advance - am terrified

Anaemia can cause raised inflammation markers.

DH has cancer, the only thing different in his blood tests is low platelets so try not to worry. Hopefully when you go on Monday they will be able to offer you some reassurance about the sensation under your ribs. Flowers

Thanks so much that's reassuring to hear. Wish they wouldn't leave us hanging for the weekend, I just can't calm down and I know I'll fret about it the whole weekend now.

Hope your husband is ok now

Sounds like it might be muscular in your back? I’d ask for a physio referral if nothing else shows up.

As PP says inflammation markers can be caused by all sorts (infections or or a variety of inflammatory conditions) so don’t worry, it’s unlikely to be anything major. Good to get it checked though.

Hi@Cornishqween

I have almost identical symptoms to you, including the anemia. I just wondered do you have heartburn too? I spoke to a doctor over Christmas and he thought it was acid stomach, but I'm not convinced. Although I suffer with anxiety too, so always think the worst

I'm going to go back to the doctors next week, but I just wanted to let you know you're not alone. I hope you can relax over the weekend, I know it's not easy 💐

Thanks for that reassurance- my gp wondered the same - he thought it was to do with me playing golf lots, but the pain in also in the front. Not sure what tests they can do.

Am trying to get the anxiety under control as it causes me to avoid any situation involving doctors which isn't helpful.

Thanks @Rowdythree that's helpful

I actually do have quiet severe acid reflux - I take a daily tablet to reduce the stomach acid. It gets worse the more stressed I get - and because I have two kids with special needs (one who is at home from school most of the time) my life can be really hectic.

I wonder if it is that?

Hopefully that's all yours is too as it's quite treatable. I might need to up my medication

@Cornishqween I was wondering how you got on at the doctors yesterday? Hopefully they were able to put your mind at rest

Thanks Rowdy

They are sending me for more tests, they want to rule out Crohn's disease or colitis since I have lots of digestive issues at once plus low red blood cells.

Not much in the way of answers yet so got to do some stool samples and more bloods Sadtrying to be as positive as I can about it all.

Will update when I know more - thanks for checking on me

At least they're investigating it, I hope you get some answers and positive news soon. Thanks for the update
