IVF but colposcopy

Hi,

Posting here as I had no response in infertility.

We were due to start meds for an egg transfer next cycle however I received the result of my latest smear as positive for HPV and Lsil , Epithelial Cell Abnormality. I need to go for a colposcopy.

I let the IVF clinic know and hoped we could still go ahead with transfer however they say I need to wait until everything is all clear. We have been doing Ivf for 4 years multiple cycles. I am in my early 40s, am really worried the delay and now I'm worried what if I do have cancer and need to have a hysterectomy and we never get to do another transfer. I've not been able to sit at my desk for long periods for a few months because of lower pain and since the start of January my lower back is always very sore when I wake. I am sure I am just being paranoid, but I didn't even tell my doctor this as I always have so many other things to mention for the brief appointment time.

Anyone have any advice?

How did you get on? Sorry this meant you had to wait, hope your results were okay though. I’ve just had the letter in for one today and I’m 12 weeks pregnant! I wasn’t pregnant when I went for the smear but was trying, I had been ‘not pregnant’ every month up until then so thought there’s no point putting it on hold when it will most likely be normal anyway. Now I’m in this position! It seems that some places don’t actually get the appointment within 8 weeks though and it can be up to a year even, due to covid backlogs. I really hope I get an appointment in ASAP as I feel like sending someone a letter with an abnormal result but no appointment to go to yet is just basically causing someone to panic and not giving them any opportunity to do anything about it 🙈

I managed to get a cancellation so had my test Fri but the results could be 8 weeks or so. Maybe you can ring the clinic up and explain you are pregnant and anxious about it.

@Tryingwithheart good, glad you managed to get in. I phoned the midwife today and she emailed my consultant then phoned me back to say she’s said I’ve to go to the appointment but tell them I’m pregnant. Was it painful? I’m guessing it’s a biopsy you’re waiting on the results of?

Hi, they used a local anesthetic and took two samples. It wasn't really much more painful then a smear :) I read it should be fine in pregnancy so don't worry too much, the reading material I saw said it shouldn't harm the pregnancy but I'm sure you can speak to your consultant about any concerns.
