Worried my symptoms point to ovarian cancer

I'm not wanting to worry my family and could do with the rational and straight talking advice from MNs

I've had symptoms of bloating and adominal pain on and off for 6 months to a year - been to the docs a few times and had a couple of UTIs which have been treated. Also over a similar time period I've had a stabbing pain in my hip when I get up, I've put this down to my age (40) and WFH so can be sat at desk on a dining chair for 3-4 hours. Thing is I still have the pain on weekends ect.

The last month my appetite has completely gone, I'm eating once a day when the hunger pains over ride but very small just enough amounts like half a jacket potato. Also my periods have nearly stopped and become very irregular.

I went to my doctors and they felt down in my pelvis and hip and said it felt hard..... this is the point where I thought i would be taken seriously but no, he's is thinking I'm stressed ( I do have work related stress) and constipated and periods are hit and Miss because of my age/ coming off the pill in September.....

I really want to leave my job and go contracting but need the security for my family if I need treatment. I have this underlying feeling now that I need to push it more that somethings not right but I don't want to be seen like a hypochondriac who needs an excuse because things are tough at the minute.

My gp has referred me for a scan (4-6 week wait) and blood tests ( in 2 weeks)

Oh and I've taken 8 laxidos and had a normal sized loose stool so I don't think it's that!

I'm thinking about getting a private scan so at least if it comes back clear I can leave my stressful job and that should help with my mental health

Any advice is welcome even a kick up the arse! Do you think I should push it more or wait for the scan which is likely to be a couple of months.

Oh and I have another wierd symptom but it sounds too batshit to tell a medical professional - the last couple of days I find I smell strange ( like old socks) but no one else can smell it!

Another vote from the private scan, both my parents passed from cancer within 2 months of each other when I was 24. Both of them were told it was likely other conditions, effects of medication they were on. There was no urgency in either case and by the time the cancer was discovered it was stage 4 and nothing could be done. My dad even asked if it was cancer due to losing his mom 5 months prior to pancreatic cancer and showing similar symptoms he was reassured that they definitely didn't think it was.

I now pay for private insurance for myself and family, I would rather have the insurance and go without other luxuries for peace of mind in the hope I won't experience the same thing.

I don't want to scare you with what my mom and dad went through but to me if things are worst case scenario I would want to find out sooner xx

@twigy100 this sounds very much like my family. I ordered a cancer gene screening kit from an US company called Color which I’m waiting on. In my families case it’s pancreatic cancer in my granddad, esophageal in my dad and larynx in my uncle. But those cancers could also be BRCA gene related which causes breast and ovarian cancer in women. This is not meant to scare you in any way, but I read your post and thought you might want to know. I hope I can arm myself with some information so I can stay on top of screening for myself.
