How do I prepare DS1 6 for an operation?

Found out yesterday that DS1 needs more grommets, I know this is not a massive deal as he has had them before more than once, however he is adament that he is not having an operation and is absolutely beside himself about it. He doesn't remember the others that he has had. I need this to be as positive an experience as possible as it is likely in the long term he will need a coclear implant which will be a much bigger operation and a more drawn out process. Anyone got any ideas?

dd 5 is about to have tonsils out next week. The ward has a nurse who will take her round a few days before so she can ask all her questions. You should be able to get an appt for your ds to speak to a nurse now if he is worried. dd knows it will hurt, but is willing to do it so she can go swimming as often as she likes!

Yes my DS 6yrs had a hernia repair on 17 Jan. They did this as a day case as originally they were checking for an undescended testicle.

The hospital had an open day which we were invited to and they showed us a video etc and the children got to play with blood pressure machines and were shown anything that they would come across, including theatre.

My DS was nervous beforehand but we had a daily chat about it and I tried to keep as upbeat as possible.

It all worked out well on the day and although he was in quite a bit of pain we managed to get home by 4pm on the same day. HTH
