Cleaning Babys nose

How do I safely clean baby's nose. Ive heard that poking it (however gently) with cotton swabs is unsafe. How do I remove those sticky bogies!!

we have a NUK thingy - don't know the name of it but it is a plastic bulb with a plastic attachment - you put one finger over one nostril, squeeze the bulb, put it up the other nostril and release - it isn't the most pleasant sensation but very efficient.

DS always puts up a fight, look shocked for a second afterwards and then happy because he can use his nose again! (he is coming up to 7 months)

Will look out for oneof those thanks

Hi,
We use the same (very effective) device, however, I always spray a little saline solution in his nostrils beforehand so as to loosen the mucus (there's a great nasal spray called Sterimar which is a sea water spray - available pharmacy.)
DS (8mths)wrestles a bit but soon understands will be more confortable.

Ah, didn't know you were meant to close the other nostril. I haven't had much luck with the bulby thing.

I do pretty well with a pointy bit of facial tissue though, when the bogies are sticky rather than liquidy.

think they are called 'nasal aspirators'

saline solution or breast milk in nose

TBH I used to pick the hard bogies out .. verrry satisfying Wink

Ooh - breast milk. Hadn't thought of that. DS had the stickiest bogey this morning - mind you, not sure he'd have liked having breastmilk dripped up his nose! LOL!

Got my nasal aspirator from Tesco :)
