TL:DR Do you think rectogesic becomes less effective after being open for a few days, even though instructions say use within 3 weeks?

I’m wondering if I’m the only one who has noticed this before I mention it to my GP.

I’ve had an anal fissure for about 12 weeks now. I’ve had them before and usually heal within 2-3 days using rectogesic. I almost always get a GTN headache with it along with a feeling that I can only describe as similar to when the colour drains out of your face.

The last tube of rectogesic didn’t give me any side effects really, but I was in a lot of pain with the fissure and spasms so many not have noticed. I started a new tube almost 2 weeks ago with strong side effects. Same amount of ointment. The fissure had become pain free after 4 days and then I had a lovely week of no pain at all. I continued using the ointment. On Saturday it reopened and I’ve continued using the ointment as before. Very, very painful. Anyway, the ointment seems to be having little effect and again I’m not getting the typical GTN headache.
