How often do you see nurse vs GP

Every time I book an appointment with the GP surgery I end up seeing a nurse.

They’re lovely but have been quite dismissive and refuse treatment/medications most times then I end up having to go back a week later when we’re even poorlier and finally end up with a script for antibiotics, ointments, steroids etc. They won’t make referrals there and then because they need to consult the GP first so I end up waiting weeks longer to even get the referral through (you need to make a separate appointment to then get to know if you can get the referral made and they do it on the phone with you). So despite triage with receptionist we’re still seen by the APN.

This is for me, DH and the DC.

Does anyone else have this in their surgery too? And how did you go about it?

Thanks.

Everytime I ask to see a GP I end up with a telephone consultation with a nurse.

No. I have almost never had any contact with the nurses. I have GP appointments whenever I want. I talk to my GP about once a month (had a few mysterious chronic health issues in last few years)

I've had this quite a few times. We do have one nurse who can prescribe medication though and I've found her excellent, but a few of them are very 'meh' and like you say you end up wasting time and have to see a doctor anyway.

We’ve got a physician’s assistant at our surgery, she’s great. Very thorough, consults the duty GP if unsure. I’m really impressed. I’ve had a health issue recently, so have ended up seeing her a few times. The continuity of care has been great, as I’m sure I wouldn’t have seen the same GP

Prior to this, we had a nurse prescriber, who was good too
