She's 16.

Not stressed, very fit and healthy, rarely ill. For the last week shes had acid reflux pain which then settles in her lower abdomen and feels like period cramps. She had her period about a week ago and is very regular so we've discounted that. She's very pale and listless. Can't get a gp appointment 😪 😩

Appendicitis? How does she feel when you press down?

hauntedvagina · 23/01/2023 11:33

If you can't get through to the GP I'd call 111. Does she have a temp?

I'd call 111 and start getting a bag together with chargers, snacks, etc... always best to be prepared!

Can appendicitis come and go? She felt better on Saturday and went for a long walk with a friend, didn't seem too bad yesterday but this morning was really in pain. My first thought was she didn't want to go to school! But that's not the case.

Yeah I've got a bag in the car with all that anyway as I have a very ill family member that I have to support

It can if it's ruptured 😬

As I say, start with 111 and go from there. The fact that there's no temp is a good sign that it's not, but always best to get this checked as they can go nasty quickly if it is.

Is there a minor injuries department you can take her to?

Appendicitis can come and go “grumbling appendicitis” but if it ruptures it needs urgent treatment and can become life threatening if not treated.

Hope she recovers soon.

This. If you have any doubts that it could be her appendix, please don't wait until Wednesday.

Well I must be the only person that 111 HASN'T told to go to AAnd E. They were utterly dismissive!

I had similar and it was a UTI, wasnt having stinging feeling when peeing but i was going more often (as it progressed and got worse) 111 and GP assumed potential appendicitis becuase of symptoms but it was a UTI.

That is a really good spot! Just asked what her wee is like and she said a bit stingy! Thanks so much! Will call gp again.

Glad to have helped! I ended up in a&e on IV antibs because it had spread to my kidney tract! Wasnt pleasant but glad it wasnt anything worse. Get her drinking lots and lots of water from now, that was the best prevention if i felt one coming on again

mulberrybag5 · 23/01/2023 14:20

Sounds like it could be a urine infection. I’d ask the gp surgery to dip the urine this pm and if it indicates infection she’ll need to be seen today x

MaizeBlouse · 25/01/2023 19:48

Hows she doing OP?
