Sinus infection from hell

Worrywart94 · 21/01/2023 09:58

Hello! Was wondering if anyone has any tips for sinus infections 🤕

Will try to keep this short...

Started with a sore throat, fever, cough on new years day, that ran for a week... second week in only had the sore throat...third week now im being crippled with the sinuses 😪

Im on my second course of antibiotics with no joy so far. I have a steriod nasal spray as well.

Have tried paracetamol and studofed but the past 3 days I have had the worst pressure headache and constant ringing in my ears, nothing is touching either 😪

Im beginning to think the second course of antibiotics is making me worse.

Anyone any tips, advice or sympathy, I feel rotton 🤢

Might not be a bacterial infection. Ive had similar, lots of popping, pressure, pain and shooting pains up to my ear, its bad this morning for example

Yet I just finished a course of anti biotics a week ago.

I dont know if I will bother with another set

I don't know if you can get this over the counter - I got this on prescription but I found it really good... I have some kind of ear/ sinus problem which flares up whenever I have the slightest hint of a cold and this works really well...

Get a neti pot. Feels weird to do, but totally clears you out. It’s the only thing that works for me.

I tried taking a photo of mine but wouldn't work 🤔 its called Mometasone 50mg, prescribed by the Doctor, two sprays each nostril once per day, so far its just ran back out 😩

If I could relieve the pressure headache and ears ringing I wouldn't be so miserable 😩

I am in a process of nasal douching (now on the phase where I do it for 10 weeks, 3 times a day)

All that is coming out is clear mucus, and yet Im in quite a lot of pain. Occasionally I blow my nose and its not clear though.

OfcourseSpringRoll · 21/01/2023 10:11

I snort saline water up my nose, I have actually bought a kit in anticipation for if I get it again. Look at you tube on a how to video.

bellac11 · 21/01/2023 10:12

Im on dymista for life, its effective but doesnt seem to clear the pain

You can get something called Sterimar which is an easier saline spray to use, it’s just on the shelf in pharmacies. It’s the only thing that gives me a bit of relief until the steroid spray starts to work.

Have you tried steam inhalation combined with sinus massage? That combination really helped me with awful sinusitis a few years ago.

Ooh yes, the face massage does work well too!

Teatime55 · 21/01/2023 10:39

I had ongoing pain in my face for weeks once. Then I was in the shower and massaged my face and something popped. There was the most revolting smell/taste. Immersive relief.

Teatime55 · 21/01/2023 10:40

immense!

jalopy · 21/01/2023 10:41

Weirdly, I found chewing gum helped with sinus pain. It somehow reduced the pressure.

WoolyMammoth55 · 21/01/2023 10:47

OP, I'm with you. Been ill since pre-Xmas, was nasty cough which evolved into bacterial bronchitis for which I took a week of antibiotics.

Just thought I could see the end of the tunnel when this sinus hell began. I am SO miserable, it's intensely painful and I feel like I've hit by a truck.

What the hell is going on this winter?! I'm 42 and don't remember having a run like this, with not a single day of wellness between germs, ever before in my life! Urghhhh.

(I have a neti pot but only use it when feeling well - if my sinuses are already sore it's too intense for me! I do like Sterimar normally but it's not touching the sides on this one.)

catfunk · 21/01/2023 10:49

Neilmed sinus rinse kit. Use daily.
You need to actually flush the infection out or it'll never heal.

Would that help with the head pressure?

@Worrywart94 this site explains the massage well www.healthline.com/health/sinus-massage#massage-techniques

you can do it yourself if your DH isn’t keen! I found it worked best straight after the steam inhalation.

hope you get some relief. Sinusitis is miserable 💐

Although I do the sinus massage, I really dont get how it works because your sinuses are behind bone on your face so when massaging you're going over bone arent you?

TaraRhu · 21/01/2023 20:50

Feel your pain. I've had weeks of hell this winter. Started with tonsillitis. Then turned into something like flu then the sinus infection last week. I'm just better after almost a month. There's a really awful virus going around. Drinking a lot of water helped me with the sinuses. Then a saline wash before bad and after. I found decongestant made it way worse. So miserable 💐

wtfisgoingonhere21 · 21/01/2023 21:07

Well another one here to going the club.

Got covid in October then end of November a slight cold but sinuses played up badly so was doing a sinus rinse daily to try and clear it out.

I'm puffy and tender around sinuses still.

Then December Xmas week came down with a horrendous virus.
High temp ear and chest infection vertigo and not being able to move much for five days. Still felt really ropey over Xmas and new year up until last week.

Then bang the last two days another hacking cough and sinus headache and feeling absolutely shattered and drained.

I'm bloody fed up if it and have started wearing a mask in work again cause I'm sick to death of feeling so rough all the time.

I take a multitude of multi vits anyway and have been out today and bought the fizzy high dose vitamin c tablets to hopefully try and build up abit that way.

I feel like I've aged about ten years since October and if one more person tells me I look heavy eyed (thanks sinuses) I'm going to scream

MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet · 21/01/2023 21:13

What's worked for me is Bromelain tablets. Plus putting a hot water bottle on the forehead where it's painful and also Sterimar!
