Wearing second hand earrings- please advise

Hi ladies, I've got a really random question regarding my day today that I wonder if you can help me with?

I was given some earrings as part of a photshoot from the costume department which were clearly second hand. Without thinking (or cleaning them) I blindly trusted the lady and put them straight in, now that I'm thinking about it, I'm worrying. What if they weren't cleaned since the last wearer ?.. Please can anyone advise am I liable to catch anything off them if that was the case?

Thanks in advance, just a little worried.

Unless you have open sores then you’re going to be fine. If you have any open skin in the piercing then give it a good clean.

I couldn’t waste energy worrying about this.

Do you never try on friends’ earrings?

It'll be fine. If you're concerned, swab your earlobes with tcp/surgical spirit for a few days.

Thank you you've all made me feel a lot less worried :)
