Back pain, leukocytes in urine but no infection?

Not sure what to do and hope someone has more knowledge than me!

i had a splodge of blood in my urine about 6 weeks ago, which coincided with flank pain (left side) which is there most days and particularly when I’m lying down. I’m post menopausal . I couldn’t see GP but dropped urine sample in to surgery - first time leukocytes were trace but they asked me to repeat sample 2 weeks later. I did this and there were leukocytes and apparently nitrates.

Practice nurse called me and prescribed antibiotics in anticipation of an infection. However my urine culture has come back negative for infection! I don’t know anything more as just a text saying call if more blood in urine or symptoms. Well i continue to have flank pain and bought some dipsticks which show ++ leukocytes.

has anyone any idea if I should pursue this with GP or could it be nothing?

Leukocytes can just be contamination if it’s not a ‘clean capture’ but, if your symptoms are continuing, then do re contact the surgery.

Laura9585 hello, I’m better now but it turned out to be a pelvic infection. I have since learned that you can have leukocytes without infection but no idea how?! Have you had blood tests? That’s what indicated infection in the end
