tulip27 · 05/02/2008 19:53

I could but here comes the embaressing bit, I'm a practice nurse( not at my own surgery)but in the next village and we all meet at meetings etc and will just feel such a wally getting them to check, also a bit embaressed.

My threads got lost but the coil stayed in place. Now I'll have to have a scan every year to check it's where it should be.

rosybud · 05/02/2008 20:02

I know of someone whose coil fell out and is now preg with twins...

Better get it checked

talulatreefrog · 05/02/2008 20:10

My threads got lost, the coil had moved upwards. Did not notice in time, ds1 arrived fairly soon afterwards. Get it sorted!!

talulatreefrog · 05/02/2008 20:13

Sorry, not upwards, just kind of twisted and jiggled itself into the wrong position, "neither use nor ornament" was the comment that the doc made mind when I had my first scan.

tulip27 · 05/02/2008 20:21

Oh lord this is not sounding good.

Tulip 27 - please get your coil checked. What would be more embarrassing - a quick coil check, or a 9 month pregnancy!!!Think about that.

WinkyWinkola · 05/02/2008 20:22

Mine was halfway out and I had it removed by the doc. Would not recommend the coil. It makes periods very heavy and painful.

buggerycrap · 05/02/2008 20:24

I know a MNer on herewho removed her own....

cheshirekitty · 05/02/2008 20:25

I work in a clinic that fits the Mirena coil. Most of the problems that are encountered with the coil is because it is not fitted properly in the first place.

Make sure whoever is fitting your coil does it frequently (family planning clinics etc as opposed to GP's).

2gorgeousboys · 05/02/2008 20:27

My coil fell out and I did not realise it had done until I was pregnant with DS2 and had scans to find out where it was and no one could find it.

tulip27 · 05/02/2008 20:32

cheshirekitty, how many of your patients have had it fall out?
I had a heavy bleed about 3 wks ago and am now panicking!!!

tulip27 · 05/02/2008 21:08

Surely I would have felt it come out, wouldn't I ???

my mums fell out but that was prob 15 years ago now they have probably changed the design now!

pinkteddy · 06/02/2008 20:23

Did you get it checked out tulip?

Vacua · 06/02/2008 20:25

anyone else find that this thread title made them clench all the way up?

cheesypeas · 06/02/2008 20:30

Mine did. It was one of the traditional copper coil types, which I was told to expect a possibility of heavier periods. Well, they were so heavy that I didnt notice the coil fall out (sorry if TMI). Luckily I went back to the clinic for a checkup when I noticed the threads were absent, and they confirmed with a scan that it had fallen out. I then tried a Mirena coil with no problems whatsoever - extremely light (if anything at all) periods now and is also effective. So, it can happen, and I suggest you get back to the clinic for confirmation.

Gunnerbean · 08/02/2008 23:28

I think that everyone with a coil should be made very well aware of the fact that it is a foreign body and it is totally natural for the body to try to expel it.

Non hormonal IUDs are not a failsafe method of contraception by any means in my view.

If you do have one, make sure you regularly check to see if you can still feel the strings.

If you're sure you don't want any more children the best form on contraception BY FAR is to get your DP or DH done!

WizzleWoo · 09/02/2008 12:23

My mirena coil fell out during a heavy period. It came out with a large blood clot. But I did notice it caome out so I would have thought if it had fallen out you would have seen it and felt it!
