Guy microbiomes (Tim Spector anyone)

Anyone else following Tim Spector and signed up for the Zoe health study? I'm on the waiting list and excited.

I'm now eating 30 plus plants a week, kefir most days and kimchi when I remember.

I feel re energised about stopping UPF. I have tried a few times over the years but slip back into buying UPF for convenience. This time I've got a weekly veg box and it's going okay. I'm cooking, baking and experimenting with food again.

I have great respect for Tim Spector but the cost of the Zoe project puts me off. I'm also prone to health anxiety so I think it would make me worse.

I would love to participate but there's no way I'm paying to give his company my data....

OriGanOver · 18/01/2023 20:46

What could his company do with my data?

It is bloody expensive! I'm only going to pay for the tests and the app for one month. I'm really curious - although surely if I'm waiting for 6 months and my diets really good I won't need the tests 🤷‍♀️

I'm on the Zoe study at the moment - it's fantastic. I was so surprised by my results. The app is really helpful as was the blood sugar monitor.

There is a lot of information but it's bite sized so really easy to take in. When you get your results, they give you a list of foods which are good for your blood fat and blood sugar (and sometimes they are not the same). I'm really enjoying it.

I got an email today saying they were opening the list for friends and family, so if you PM me your email I can add it - full disclosure, I get a month for free.

Also, the muffins are a trial, the fat ones are a struggle to eat, the sugar ones are like really sweet fairy cakes!

OriGanOver · 18/01/2023 21:33

@ThankYouVeryMuchGerry that is really helpful. Is it any new information that isn't in one of his books/pod casts/IG?

Also what difference have you noticed in using the knowledge of how your body reacts to different food?

It's not really like his books and podcasts - I'd say those were a lot more comprehensive. To be honest, the stuff in the app is nothing I didn't really know already as I'm very interested in the gut.

I'd say the app focuses more on how your blood fats and blood sugars and how to keep them in balance. This is the bit I wanted to know, but really its common sense - don't eat processed food, and if you are going to eat carbs, fruit etc - eat them with some fats.

There is a food section after the test and it tells you gut boosters and gut suppressors. Being really honest, if you are taking kefir and kimchi etc, and following the 30 a week, you will know then gut stuff.

I really wanted to know what my sugars, fats and microbiome were like - and I will say the results shocked me, they were really bad, and I mean really! But now I've actually seen the results, its shocked me in to action - I've always been goodish with my diet, but this has put the fear of god into me and I'm taking it seriously.

The one thing that is annoying me about the program, is that there is no follow up testing and nothing planned at the moment so I won't know if I've improved.

In all honesty - unless you specifically want to know your bloods, fats and gut tests, I wouldn't spend the money. Hope this helps.

That’s very helpful @ThankYouVeryMuchGerry (and I love the user name ;)).

I’m tempted by Zoe, but the cost puts me off. I already put most of Spector’s recommendations into practice, so I think all the monitoring might not be worth the cost for me.

OriGanOver · 18/01/2023 22:07

@ThankYouVeryMuchGerry that is very helpful thank you very much Gerry!

It's a shame there isn't follow up testing. Maybe add a fake person to your family and friends list, unsubscribe and resubscribe with the hidden identity and do the tests again in 6 months 😂

I did it pre Covid as part of his twin study, no cost.
We have just been invited to follow up testing.
I won't be doing it. I haven't eaten a muffin since trying to consume theirs. It was suspected that I am allergic to the egg white stabiliser in the recipe. As soon as they hit my stomach I threw up. I persevered for a few days before giving up. Twin was fine.

@ThankYouVeryMuchGerry I've just signed up for Zoe, I lost weight but I am still pre-diabetic, have high blood pressure and OK cholesterol but it could be better. Thanks for the advice, I feel I've done the right thing as I would really like to know my body's responses to fats and sugars and I want to do the maximum to avoid health conditions.

Out of interest, what foods did Zoe advise you have the best response for you?If I've understood we're all individual. My friend was told she metabolises peanuts very well!

HouseHistoryHunter · 28/01/2023 08:45

I really just want the blood testing, is there any way of buying just that?

Maxaluna · 28/01/2023 23:10

Could anyone who's signed up please provide a sample of the info that's provided in the personal report? I'm interested in how individualised the results are, vs info that's generally applicable to us all. Also has anyone looked into other ways to get a CGM? Thanks

Ivofexpressoplease · 28/01/2023 23:40

Would also be v interested in the blood testing. I know I have a strong reaction to sugars, I just feel sick and unwell if I eat something sweet like a croissant on an empty stomach. Would love to understand that more and make sure I’m keeping everything stabilised

Glucose monitors are freely available, I think you can get them on Amazon

ivykaty44 · 29/01/2023 06:50

ivykaty44 · 29/01/2023 06:57
