For a few months now I've been experiencing pain in my tailbone. At first I put it down to being housebound after an operation and spending too much time sat on my arse.
I went back to work a couple of months ago and for most of the day have been on my feet so no longer sitting constantly.
It feels achy and bruised but there are no marks or bumps and I definitely haven't injured it by falling on it or anything. The pain is worse if I have spent time sitting down e.g. driving for a while or in the evening if I'm sitting on the couch. The pain seems to radiate either side as well - if I try to ease pressure on my tailbone by shifting my weight to either side, I get pain on the side I'm "sitting" on (bum cheek/hip). It's also sore when I lie in bed on my side and really painful when getting up and down from a seat.
I've taken anti-inflammatories and paracetamol but they don't do much, a hot water bottle helps a little but not much.
I'm going to phone my GP tomorrow and see what they say but I don't hold out much hope for an appointment. Does anyone have any advice in the meantime?
I thought about getting a special cushion but I wouldn't be able to use it at work and I'm not sure how effective it would be on the couch?
