Conjunctivitis won’t go!

I’ve had conjunctivitis for 5 weeks now!

eyes are bloodshot, itchy, sticking together.

I’ve had optrex infected eye drops and fusidic acid and it gets better with them but as soon as the course finishes, it’s back with a vengeance!

what else could it be?

For ages I thought I had conjunctivitis and got over the counter meds and occasional prescription.

Had a trial for contact lenses and was told I had blepharitis. Which then made sense and got blepharitis wipes. The conjunctivitis symptoms were just being eased. Could it be that for you?

Although my eyes mostly felt gritty rather than sticky.

Or are you used eye makeup that has gone off?

Popsicales · 17/01/2023 20:40

Could be! Where your eyes blood shot too?

I’m not wearing any make up for risk of contaminating it!

Could it be dry eyes OP? The symptoms can be very similar. I had the same symptoms as you and was prescribed antibiotic eye drops but kept coming back. Tried lubricating eye drops and my symptoms went.

Hmm, they were bloodshot but probably because I kept rubbing them.

Sounds like dry eye/blepharitis. I have it myself but originally they thought it was conjunctivitis.

In case anyone reads this thread in the future, it was dry eye and episcleritis. It cleared up eventually after 8 weeks with hycosan drops, a heated eye mask and ibruprophen.

Right, this is me! Thank you for updating. I’m going the doctors next week 👍🏻

Popsicales · 11/02/2023 21:03

@Nina9870 it is awful, isn’t it? Spec savers have a minor eye clinic. If you call them with your symptoms, they will triage you and offer you an appointment. Might be better than the wait for the GP! I did see my GP as well though and he’s sending me for blood tests for immune conditions.

Yes it’s starting to annoy me now. I’ve had it weeks and as soon as I stop the drops it’s back with a vengeance. I’m sick of not being able to wear makeup. I have two kids under two and they‘ve been fine- I did wonder if it was actually conjunctivitis as I know it’s meant to be super contagious
thanks I’ll look into specsavers too!
