Fibroid and quick follow up appointment with Gynae

I'm trying not to stress and am not going to look at Dr Google, but wondering if anyone can shed some light on what this might mean.

I had an ultrasound scan in November to check my coil and they found a fibroid. My GP called and told me about this and that they wanted to scan again in a couple of months to check it hadn't grown.

I went for that scan last week where I had the same person scanning me. She said she thought it hadn't grown, but it would be checked by a Dr and then I would hear back usually within a couple of weeks.

I've had a call this morning offering me an appointment at the hospital on Thursday morning. I'm worried that I am getting an appointment so quickly when the waiting times are currently massive. Could it just be nothing? Why do they want to see me? I just expected feedback from my GP again.

Many women have fibroids (I had a family of smallish ones show up in a scan after being referred for bladder frequency). They’re generally benign and if causing no issues like bleeding or getting bigger are usually left. A Mirena coil as you have can help though sometimes the positioning of the fibroid can dislodge it. This might be the case for you or the consultant might want to do a further examination eg if the scan showed up a thickened womb lining. Many women are seen on the 2 week pathway for further tests to see if anything needs ruling out so great you’re being seen so soon.

I have loads of fibroids, the largest is 10cm. Only caused an issue in pregnancy/birth. I definitely wouldn’t be concerned, I’d be grateful I was seen so quickly for a follow up with the hospital.

Thanks both. I know fibroids are pretty common. I'm sure the sonographer said that 50% of women over 40 have them.

It's just that they didn't see me after the first scan but have waited until this second one.

I was recently referred on the two week pathway for thickened endometrial lining, had some biopsies taken and they were clear
i also have a fibroid (and an ovarian cyst)

The speed did worry me, but the gynae was very reassuring

Thanks @WorriedMillie at least I don't have long to wait to see them, so not too much time to worry.

I have just been put on 2 week wait for suspected fibroids but the letter I was given has terrified me 😢
