facial numbness - what is it?

Over the last 3 or 4 days i keep getting periods of numbness around the left side of my chin, and up into my left cheek. Feels a bit like the tingling you get after you've been to the dentist, and the anasthetic is wearing off.

Anyone had this, or know what it could be? Thanks

I get tingling in my chin/lips/cheeks if I have a cold sore coming.....do you suffer from these at all?

flamingtoaster · 05/02/2008 11:59

You should have this checked out by your doctor as it could be several things - but I've had this as a form of migraine.

Could it be Bells Palsy?

marymoocow · 05/02/2008 12:03

thanks for the quick replies, the area is too large for it to be cold sores. I feel fine apart from this. Its just annoying iyswim. Feel like i have to keep rubbing the side of my face, or move it around alot (like pulling lots of strange faces - much to dc's amusement)

Hmmm - just had a look at the symptoms of bells palsy but it doesn't fit with the symptoms you mention mary.

marymoocow · 05/02/2008 12:08

will get in touch with the doctors if it carries on over the next few days. Feel a bit daft going saying i feel like the dentist anasthetic is wearing off.

quick up-date. Finally went to the doctors on Friday, as i started to get tingling in 2 finger tips as well, and a rather bad headache. Doctor has immediatly reffered me to the neurologist, so just waiting to see them now.

Doctor did mention several things that it could be ( which weren't good news ), but then again could be one of those things that just happen and we'll never know.

Just wish the appointment could be a bit quicker, so that i know what's going on.
