What is this abdominal pain?

Woke up with mild pain but it's gotten worse through the day, it's at the point now where no position is comfortable! Especially sitting as I can't bear any pressure on it. It's mostly behind the belly button over quite a large area.

Too high for usual bowel pain/cramps when I have a bug/food poisoning, too low to be the stomach. I don't feel sick or anything.

All I can think of is trapped wind but can it really be so debilitating and would it not have passed by now? I am sort of burping more than usual, but no other symptoms.

I can "feel" it's nothing sinister (I hope!) but just curious what it could be!

H pylori?
That causes burping and with you saying where the pain is that could cover it?
It can damage the tissue in your stomach and the first part of your small intestine (the duodenum)

If you’re in so much pain you can’t stand pressure on it then you need to ring 111. Possibly appendicitis but could just be trapped wind or something else entirely!

It pretty much disappeared for a couple of hours, I decided to have a Christmas chocolate and it's started again almost instantly. So incredibly painful, like an alien is trying to get out of my stomach through my belly button. It's such a weird thing. The fact it stopped for a while makes me think probably not appendicitis but who knows.

Usually with trapped wind they're localised areas of pain, this feels more like electric shocks going back and forth all across the area.

I'm going to Google h pylori, I haven't come across it before.

Ring 111

Ring 111

Yes please do this at the very least! Could well be appendicitis if it's food related. If not, kidney stones? They can come and go pain wise.

Poonicorn · 09/01/2023 22:48

Bellybutton area is not too high to be bowel related. If the pain isn't too bad I would leave it until the morning and see how you are. If you call 111 now you'll be up all night waiting for a call back.

Gallbladder?

GinghamWorld · 09/01/2023 23:11

It's definitely linked to eating food as it got particularly bad just after dinner then fine until I ate chocolate. The pain is starting to lessen again, I am burping and a bit reflux-y. I think my digestive system is screwed up!

@poonicorn yes I'm thinking it's my bowel, it feels like it's being twisted. I imagine I'll be OK at night as I won't be eating and hopefully it will be gone by the morning.

No stomach pain overnight however I kept waking up feeling dizzy and this morning the dizziness is really bad. I got out of bed and everything was spinning so I had to hold on to the wall. Didn't trust myself to carry DC as I seem to have no balance.

I have had to lie back down, but even in bed my head is spinning and it's now making me feel sick.

I did have this spinning feeling last time I had a sickness bug but this was only the morning after a lot of D&V which hasn't happened this time.

Or could it be slow developing food poisoning? I have a bit of a fear of vomiting so am freaking out slightly.

I have made a telephone GP appointment.

How are feeling now? Did you speak to GP? Have you done a covid test as one of my friends had similar symptoms with covid.

GinghamWorld · 10/01/2023 20:21

Thanks for checking @Poonicorn I spoke to the GP who said that as long as the stomach pain has settled a bit it's probably viral and they don't need to see me.

I've also come to the conclusion it might be covid, I did have a really painful throat randomly before this for a day or two, and have also been having disturbed nights waking up frequently with vivid dreams. I thought I was maybe a bit run down and stressed but Covid seems to cause similar random collection of symptoms.

I'm out of home tests unfortunately and last time I had Covid they didn't pick it up, I only tested positive on PCR so I guess I'll never know.

GP said the vertigo could go on for a few weeks, I hope not!
