Never ending coughing

Had flu 4 weeks ago. Been coughing ever since. Is it worth phoning the dr? I had green/brown phlegm, then clear, then came back, now clear again. Horrendous at night and none of the pharmacies have ~anything~ night nurse although I did get an alternative which helps some nights. Not sure if it's something that needs to run it's course or if I should ask for treatment from the GP? No issue with getting an appointment, they are excellent.

I think she me coughs are lasting longer , I'm three weeks in.
Do you have a temperature ? Probably just lingering.

NHS page here gives advice on when to see a GP www.nhs.uk/conditions/cough/

I would see a GP soon if it doesn't go.

Thank you. I will maybe leave it one more week then give them a call.

No temp, I did during the flu but not now. It's definitely a hacking cough to the point of feeling sick/sore, especially at night, despite being propped up. Sick of the sound of it.

I went after 6 weeks. Ended up getting Ventolin inhaler to shift the ‘post viral wheeze’, I’m sure it would’ve went on it in eventually but inhaler defo gave it a nudge .

Flurbegurb · 06/01/2023 15:20

How long did you need the inhaler for?

2 weeks, but actually started to improve within a few days even. That being said, that’s because there wasn’t an underlying infection.

I have had this, called 111 and booked into local A&E for chest xray, had bronchitis after flu. Was given strong antibiotics, inhaler and steroids and finally feel so much better. Was having massive feelings of doom! May be worth looking into. Also cocodamol is great for stopping the cough at night. I was coughing until almost sick!
But ti clarify, I had a slight temp and a real feeling of feeling breathless

Flurbegurb · 06/01/2023 17:16

Glad you didn't have an infection @Margarita45

That sounds so scary @Harveyrabbit76 , glad everything worked and you feel better. Glad 111 listened and you got an appointment. I went out to get co codamol yesterday after reading about it on herr, but there was a queue of 15 at the chemist - today it was shut as no staff! Will try again tomorrow. The shelves are so empty too, had to pay £4 for Lemsip cold and flu as none of the own brand there.

Thankyou! Hope you managed to get some cocodamol today. Everything has sold out everywhere!

Flurbegurb · 07/01/2023 20:29

Tried 3 chemists then gave up, actually scaryhow little it on the shelves both behind and in front of the counter?!
