STI...without the S? Or a return to normal cycle post-baby? (TMI alert)

I am 4 months post-partum and am exclusively BFeeding, which has left everything a bit cobwebby in the fanjo department! Without being too graphic... for the last two days I have been decidedly- er- lubricated, to the extent of wetting my clothes Nothing particularly offensive about it but just most unusual for me in my current state.

I'm not sure what this means. Could I have an infection? (Have only had sex a handful of times since the birth and always with a condom). I have been very tired and low with tonsillitis and a heavy cold- are there infections that are not sexually transmitted?

Or could my normal cycle be resuming (thought this was meant to be unlikely while BF exclusively) At what point might I expect my periods to return?

Cannot quite believe I have written this but keen to get some views before I show my poor bits to yet another doctor....

TIA!

If it's not smelly or painful I would think it's unlikely to be an infection, you could be returning to your normal cycle, it's not unheard of whilst exclusively bf. Keep an eye on it and see your doc if you're worried, you could always mention it to your hv.

Teuch · 04/02/2008 13:32

not an expert, but it is perfetly normal for your cycle to return whilst bf...you basically have to feed 2hourly, 24 hours a day for it to be contraceptive and even then not reliable!!

If you have been taking medicine for your heavy cold, it is possible that all of your bodily fluids have been watered down. Robitussin (sp) and similar cough mixtures are known to thin cervical mucus.

I would look out for abdominal or vaginal discomfort, smelly discharge, pain or burning when wee-ing...that kind of thing!

HTH and that someone qualified pops alon soon

Lulumama · 04/02/2008 13:36

are you sure it is not wee.. stress incontinence?

it might be pre ovulation discharge which can be copious

if no smell, or pains etc then unlikely to be an infection, but i would keep an eye and definiely see doc or practice nurse if it continues

thanks so much for replies- was worried this one would sink without a trace!

don't seem to have any other symptoms but will keep an eye out. Deffo not wee- ability to hold my wee is the only good side effect of my 2 C-sections

interesting re: need to bfeed every 2 hours for contraceptive effect. DD also has had cold and been totally off food so not feeding v often at all for last week. maybe connected?

I'm no expert...just this is what I was advised by HV!! And she said it STILL couldn't be relied on...

hunofmonsters · 04/02/2008 13:54

re periods returning...i exclusivley bf ds2 every 2 hours for up to an hour at times and my periods returned after 7 weeks.

Teuch · 04/02/2008 13:58

see...can't be relied on!!

vaginosis

MommaFeelGood- have a look at this, esp re coil. Have just remembered I had this after DD1. Reckon that's what it is this time too.
