When to see GP for ongoing diarrhoea?

Sorry for the grim title but I’ve had awful diarrhoea since Xmas Eve. I assume I’ve had some sort of stomach bug and I’m over the worst of it but my bowels still aren’t right. I’m going 3-4 times a day, sometimes not making it to the loo, and the cramps are so painful. Almost like early labour pains which aren’t eased by going to the toilet. Weirdly they do go away and just come/go throughout the day. I can eat/drink fine but then pay for it later.

I think it was a stomach bug initially but I was never actually sick, just lost appetite and then constantly on the toilet. Should I contact GP or is this just something like noro that takes awhile to go away. Thanks

Now with that severity.

Not to scare you but I would get checked out now. Ask them to do a blood test and stool sample to check inflammatory markers. I had something similar to you and unfortunately I had inflammation in my bowels and got diagnosed with Crohn’s disease.

I would send a stool sample first for bugs. It sounds like campylobacter infection. But yes at just over a week now is time to get investigated.

Same here. Sounds like how I started off, also got diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. If you don’t feel right go and get checked out

Ok, will call GP tomorrow and get seen. My DH has been nagging me but I wasn’t sure if it was just a lingering bug. I’ve always had stomach issues, had an endoscopy years ago which confirmed GERD but nothing else. But then this is completely new and the pains are horrible when they come

Definitely now. GP can do a stool sample.
