Cold sore like spots on face

Chesneyhawkes1 · 02/01/2023 10:21

I've had a cold type thing, cough, incredibly sore throat etc. Covid negative test.

Yesterday I woke up and I had 3 little spots on my face. I never get spots so thought it odd.

Now they are oozing and crusting over. They almost seem like cold sore type spots but on my face. I've never had a cold sore before. They are painful.

Anyone else had this? I don't know what to put on them to try to help.

Impetigo? If it is, you'll need AB cream.

Skiptothelooo · 02/01/2023 10:25

Shingles maybe?

Fraaahnces · 02/01/2023 10:26

Could also be impetigo which is bacterial

Chesneyhawkes1 · 02/01/2023 10:30

Thanks googled both those. Yes could be either. I didn't have chicken pox as a child, I had it as an adult, not sure if that makes any difference.

Have to try to get a GP appointment tomorrow 🤦‍♀️

Impetigo is v contagious so just be careful if you have kids

I have DSS here this weekend. He's 10. I've been staying well away from him. And DH.

Only the dogs want to come near me 🤦‍♀️

I've had the dreaded flu and now have three cold sores. Very common after illness

Chesneyhawkes1 · 02/01/2023 14:35

@highwoodwitch I didn't know that. I've never had one before. These are on my face. Not near my lips. One coming up on my nostril too now.

I didn't realise they could pop up anywhere.

I know I have HPV virus as I had cervical cancer in 2020. But I thought that virus was different to the cold sore one. Maybe I've just been lucky to not have one before.

I had a bad cold before Christmas and 3 coldsores between my nose and top lip, I think there was one up my nose as well, I often get a couple like this after a cold, I don't tend to get them on my lips much. I usually get the coldsores after the cold has got a bit better. I think you can get them anywhere around the nose and mouth area

Chesneyhawkes1 · 02/01/2023 15:04

I'll send DH to Tesco for Zovirax then. See if it helps

I put Zovirax on mine and it did shorten the time, it seems to miss out a lot of the blistering stage so went quicker to scabby stage.

Northernsoullover · 02/01/2023 15:21

I had impetigo on my mush. It was painless just crusty. I think cold sores would throb?

Fraaahnces · 03/01/2023 01:06

Cold sores and Shingles tend to involve other symptoms like sore glands (nodes) as well. Generally feeling unwell at least in the lead up to the sores coming out.

Yep, totally different virus.

Does sound like cold sores, the herpes virus can lie dormant for years and symptoms may present when you’re run down or stressed. I hope you feel better soon Flowers

Impetigo will need antibiotics,it's spread by touch so lots of hand washing and wash towels etc.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 03/01/2023 13:19

Well I had my video call doctors appointment and he said impetigo and I've got some antibiotic cream.

I'm not convinced as my throat is still so sore and I have red spots on the roof of my mouth. Didn't see these til after the appointment 🤦‍♀️

But I'll use the cream and hopefully it will clear up.
