What is this? DH has worms - gross pic, sorry

Sorry for the gross picture. NC’d because this is disgusting and I’m ashamed even whilst being anonymous.

DH is a big lumbering former rugby player. He eats 4000-5000 calories per day, is 6’3 and 100kg. It’s a joke with everyone we know that he’s a dustbin. Now, he doesn’t exercise at all but has gained no weight. He’s constantly starving and constantly eating - if he doesn’t eat for a few hours then he gets light-headed and irritable. He also has memory issues and can’t focus on things (I’ve posted before about this and was told to look at ADHD and diabetes). ADHD just doesn’t tie in with other things (he hasn’t always been this way) and I’ve been trying to encourage him to get tested for diabetes.

However, he’s just had a tummy ache and thought he might have diarrhoea. He’s gone to the toilet and there’s massive worms in it that appear to be dead. I can’t identify what kind they are - I’m sure as hell not asking someone I know in real life. Definitely not threadworm.

I’ve seen some things online about catching them abroad and we visited SE Asia for a long time but not since 2018!! On top of that, I found an article about Malaysia and whipworm - we spent a lot of time in Malaysia.

Can anyone identify this? Has he really had it since 2018? Do we all need testing/checking/treating? What about the dogs? Can this wait until Tuesday or should we go to the OOH tomorrow?

Happy New Year folks! 😫

I'd probably freeze the worms and visit the GP with them for advice and some meds.

Other than that, I wouldnt panic.

MadeofElephantStone · 31/12/2022 22:15

They look like tapeworms.

ILikeBigSaladsAndICannotLie · 31/12/2022 22:15

What did he have to eat over the last 24-36 hours? I'd be more inclined to think that's undigested food TBH. I don't really digest beansprouts, could it be that, has he had Chinese food?

dementedpixie · 31/12/2022 22:16

Beansprouts?

MrsEvedder · 31/12/2022 22:16

Has he recently eaten bean sprouts?!

dementedpixie · 31/12/2022 22:17

Or other food e.g. onions, peppers?

Whydidimarrythis · 31/12/2022 22:17

I also said they look like beansprouts! They aren’t. He said some were moving still.

@ILikeBigSaladsAndICannotLie @dementedpixie beat me to it!

MadeofElephantStone · 31/12/2022 22:18

Has he come into contact with any livestock or other animals?

MyCatIsAFuckwit · 31/12/2022 22:19

Christ on a bike 🤢 I wasn't expecting that.
Tape worm possibly.
You can get over the counter stuff, "Ovex" I think.
Maybe all night chemist tonight or supermarket with a pharmacy tomorrow.
Whole house needs to take em. Best treat the dogs too.
Launder everything that will go in machine and vacuum, vacuum, vacuum.

Unforgettablefire · 31/12/2022 22:19

Looks very much like tapeworm but I'm sure they don't normally come out like that.

BoreOfWhabylon · 31/12/2022 22:21

You need MN's very own worm expert, @Lweji

UmbilicusProfundus · 31/12/2022 22:21

Obvious placemarking.

justasking111 · 31/12/2022 22:21

Poor bastard's probably got tapeworm. Picked them up off the rugby pitch. DS rugby team loads of them caught something nasty off the pitch once. Dogs and rugby pitch mess are a problem.

Splonker · 31/12/2022 22:23

Deffo looks like tapeworm. Are your dogs up to date with worming?

Splonker · 31/12/2022 22:23

You might have them too?

bookworm1982 · 31/12/2022 22:23

Whydidimarrythis · 31/12/2022 22:17

I also said they look like beansprouts! They aren’t. He said some were moving still.

Well it's obviously not undigested food if they're moving! You never said that in the first post, makes a big difference.

Yawn2222 · 31/12/2022 22:23

My vote is roundworm!

SuspiciousBanana · 31/12/2022 22:23

Looks like roundworm to me. You’ll need to treat everyone in the household! Unusual to get it but entirely possible (eating pork for example). Try not to panic!

Backthetruckup · 31/12/2022 22:23

Another vote for possible threadworms here. Get to a pharmacy tomorrow and ask for Ovex. Yes, you will need to treat the whole family and get vetinary strength de-wormer for any pets too. I would ask for a discreet word with the Pharmacist and show them your picture to double check first though.

Yawn2222 · 31/12/2022 22:25

forgot to add, my daughter had roundworm, treated with stuff from the gp and a follow up stool sample!

Trudij123 · 31/12/2022 22:25

Looks a bit like roundworm to me ( ex horse nurse!) they look a lot like bean sprouts

Namenic · 31/12/2022 22:26

Put the worms in a container and take them to GP. Keep the photo. Tell gp about memory issues and weight loss as well (they might want to do some additional scans).

Blowyourowntrumpet · 31/12/2022 22:26

Just phone the GP on Tuesday. OOH isn't needed

Unforgettablefire · 31/12/2022 22:27

I thought at first tapeworm but I think they come out in segments.
My dd came running upstairs one day to tell me the cat had thrown up beansprouts on the chair. This is what they looked like come to think of it.
