Recurrent bacterial throat infections

I stopped my fourth course of antibiotics on Thursday evening and this morning I'm starting to feel tightness in my throat again, exactly the same early symptoms as the last 3 times before being crippled with pain and swelling a couple of days later.

Last bought I was briefly hospitalised while they investigated if it was an abcess. The ent dr who did the procedure said beforehand that she didn't think 8t was an abcess and said she couldn't find anything. I was given a brutal 7 day course of pills. 7 doses a day. Felt rough over christmas and needing to juggle eating/not eating to suit the pills. I'm now feeling really down about it coming back again, typical its a long weekend. I was told to go to the ent clinic if it returned but they are now closed until Tuesday. If im right and its the same thing, I won't last until then.

Has anyone had similar? Its a typical strep infection seemingly but pain is extreme when swallowing. At the worst the pain was radiating to whole back of mouth, cheekbone on that side. Uvula squashed over to one side, can't open mouth, speak or eat. Pain killers do nothing. Antibiotics are highly effective and work within 24-48 hours but symptoms return within 48hours of stopping with one exception, I had one course that lasted 17 days and after that symptoms only returned after two weeks.

Like I said I'm very down. Thinking of going to private just to sort it out though its not really in our budget. Can they scan things like this?

The hospitsl procedure involved stabbing my throat with a large needle and seeing if pus came out...don't know the name.
