Smirk home scaler

I keep getting adverts for this ultrasonic tooth scaler. I’ve had gum disease before and I don’t like going to the dentist (even though I know I have to!), so the idea of giving myself a hygienist clean at home is super appealing.

Has anyone got one?

Any dentists have an opinion of it?

i’m a little nervous of getting anything that might make things worse!

I have one (but a different brand). It removed some light staining I had on the back of my lower teeth.
You have to be gentle though, and patient. I was not on one tooth, and now I can feel scratches.
TBH, I think they are a gimmick.

I would not be surprised to see any one who works in dentistry to say they are a bad idea. Scaling is more than just running an instrument along your teeth.. it is being able to keep the instrument cool, wash debris away, and know how to avoid pushing harmful bacteria in places you don't want it.

But no NHS dentists, so people are desperate.
