Hi!
Im 22 and I’ve started taking accutane roughly 4 days weeks ago, after suffering with horrendous acne for about 9/10 years(however this year has been the worst it’s ever gotten).

My dermatologist has put me on 20mg once a day and I wanted to know, how long it took for you to notice a difference, did the acne get worse before it got better and also how did anyone get on with the same dosage I am on.

Thanks😊

Hey! I was on accutane at age 15 and then needed it again when I was 23.
It does take a while to work, but it's totally worth it. It definitely gets worse before it gets better I've got to say.
This was my experience -
Month 1- no changes to skin really apart from getting dry.
Month 2- sore skin and very chapped lips, aching muscles.
Month 3- serious break outs , skin really bad. Felt down. Felt generally crappy.
Month 4- wow skin is starting to clear now, still very dried out.
Month 5- seriously clear, like pretty much most large spots have gone.
Month 6- totally clear skin , scarring still there and needed further time to heal but all the spots had gone and I had this glow to my skin.

They increased my dosage a few times over the course of treatment. It all depends on your weight and your cholesterol level. The second time I was on the drug my cholesterol was affected so I was on a lower dose for longer which meant it took longer to work.
I'm 26 now and my skin is still clear as anything.
Having acne is awful so I really sympathise.
Good luck, hope this helps.

thank you so much. I don’t really know much people who’ve taken this medication so this helps a lot.
