"chronic" sinusitis - advice, please

I'm on my 3rd course of antibiotics for sinusitis (& now an ear infection!) in 5 weeks. The doc says I need to take Prednisone but I can't handle the side-effects. Does anyone know of an alternative therapy? What could help prevent sinusitis altogether? Thx!

Have you tried a salt water spray to loosen the mucus and kill germs? And are you taking a steroid nose spray (like flixonase) to help prevent inflammtion. These have very little side effects!

Just sending lots of sympathy. I had 5 weeks of sinusitis over Christmas and know a lot of others who did too. It cleared quite suddenly around week 6, but lots of people really struggled to shake off this bug. I tried Sudofed which helped a bit, but it was ghastly. Have you tried inhaling steam from a bowl of near boiling water with some vicks melted into it? It can help too.

Hoping that you feel better soon.

Yes shrooms, I'm squirting up the old saline jet like a junkie & also have a steroid nose spray which I'm only supposed to use once a day. My latest idea is to set the vapouriser going in our bedroom at night. It makes quite a noise but nothing could be as loud as dh's snoring.

I have to see the doc again on Wed (he's a specialist but not very friendly - he's going to be quite put out when he hears I haven't taken the prednisone!) but wondering what else he can prescribe for me... surely not surgery?!

I had my sinuses drained when I was a teenager. Not pleasant but I haven't had an infection since. Before that we used to inhale some weird brown gloopy stuff which was gross and not very effective!

Ah, drained sinuses! It sounds as good as fantastic sex or a full spa treatment.

My ears, nose, head and face have been bunged up for so long I can't remember what it's like not feel as though I've got a pumpkin over my head. My eyes are sore & heavy and worst of all, I'm always soooooo tired! Whiiiiiinnnnnge!
