Viral conjunctivitis

Ahhh. I'm suffering horrible swollen, red watery, drippy eyeballs. Went to the pharmacy on Tuesday who prescribed antibiotic eyedroppr. By Thursday no improvement and I started panicking so went to optician. Diagnosed viral conjunctivitis. Of course anti-b won't touch this 🙈

Anyone have any suggestions on what helps ease swelling and speed up recovery?

So far have tried, antibiotics ✖, cleaning with cooled Boiled water regularly, cooled tea bags on them for 20 mins.

Was really looking forward to getting nice family Christmas photos this year but currently resemble quasimodo 🥺

If it's viral conjunctivitis rather than bacterial conjunctivitis antibiotics won't work.
I'd try calling the eye dept at your local hospital for advice.
I had it (viral) a few months ago and was told "there's a lot of it about" - it's the cold virus getting into your eye.

Ocular lubricants really help - hypromellose is good as you can use frequently, you can buy it very cheaply at the chemist. Make sure the tip doesn't touch your eye. Also don't discount general analgesics like paracetamol or ibuprofen.

Unless it's affecting the cornea (which the optician would have told you about) there is absolutely no point in the eye casualty as there isn't anything else to give.

Camomile teabags

First warm then cold

I've just gotten over Bacterial Conjunctivitis - went to the Drs who prescribed Chlorophenicol eye ointment - put about 1 cm in the effected eye twice a day. This cleared mine up in just under 2 weeks.
Hope that helps.

I had this recently and it's come back 3 times. I used cotton wool pad with cooled boiled water with added tsp of salt. Cut cotton wool pads in half and soak then dab once, repeat every hour. It cleared it up eventually. Or maybe it cleared up itself.

Chloramphenicol is an antibiotic, so not useful for viral conjunctivitis.

Thanks for all the replies.

Have been using salt water to bathe them every couple of hours. Cool tea bags at night. Ibuprofen to try reduce the pain and swelling.

It just looks so horrific 😢
