Appendicitis

Evening

With Christmas so close, I’m concerned about a pain in my abdomen. I’m probably being paranoid because I don’t want to be Ill over Christmas as I’m hosting Christmas dinner haha.

Basically I’ve been well all day and around 3pm I got a sudden sharp pain in the low right hand side of my tummy. The pain has been there ever since, sometimes going dull but past half hour getting a little worse, especially if I stretch, and when I get up from laying down. The pain isn’t excruciating or anything just more of an uncomfortable level, sharp then dull. Also feels like it’s radiating round to my lower back also.

I know I’m probably being an hypochondriac but does anyone think could be the start of appendicitis? Has anyone experienced similar with appendicitis?

TIA

Have you taken painkillers? Did they help it? Do you have a fever? I'm sorry you feel unwell.

MissMaple82 · 21/12/2022 22:31

I've had appendicitis, and I was in excruciating pain, and the sickness and nausea was extreme. I couldn't keep still, I was literally writhing around in sheer agony. I ended up going to A&E, and they thought I was in labour!!! Kept asking me if I was pregnant, i was only 18 at the time. I was soon rushed in for emergency surgery.

I'm not too sure, but I suspect you'd be very poorly if it was your appendix

Ovulation pain?

Itisbetter · 21/12/2022 22:34

I too was writhing, I remember it because I’d pulled the bottom sheet off the bed and was so embarrassed when the Dr came because it looked like I just slept on the mattress Blush

On the other hand I had appendicitis and wasn’t like that @MissMaple82 so it can vary.

Mine was pain above my navel all day then eventually moved very low down and to the right and became more of a sharp pain.

Have you felt like eating today? That was one of the deciding factors for the OOH GP to phone the surgical team and tell them I was on my way! I had had absolutely no desire to eat all day.

Appendicitis pain often gets worse after spreading your stomach.

I’d see how you feel tomorrow.

underneaththeash · 21/12/2022 23:53

Depressing - not spreading.

Itisbetter · 21/12/2022 23:58

they pressed in and let go to test for rebound pain which was a sign it was appendix

Nicnaknoo2 · 22/12/2022 10:52

Thanks everyone.

I don’t know what it is, I’ve never experienced this type of pain before, not the level of pain but just how it came on so suddenly, was strange made me jump up and say what the heck was that and then the pain has just been there ever since.
I still have the pain today maybe slightly worse but not unbearable. Hurts when I stand up straight and hurt a lot when I go from laying to standing.

Probably nothing I am just paranoid as I have 3 kids and would hate anything to ruin their Christmas.

I have ovulation pain that feels this bad, and can go on for a couple of days too.

Angharad78 · 22/12/2022 11:00

Agree with previous posters. Had appendicitis last month - first a bit of an ache, then felt nauseous and lost all appetite, then woke up in excruciating pain. I passed out in hospital waiting room. Hope it’s not OP. It’s hellish.

Nicnaknoo2 · 22/12/2022 11:01

Not sure it’s that as I’m currently on my period

Could be a pulled muscle I guess.
