At the doctor's yesterday, there was a man at reception wanting to make an appointment. The receptionist told him she couldn't make an appointment in person. She told him to go home and ring them.
What's happened to common sense?

This happened at my local GPs. A woman went in to make an appointment and was told she couldn't do so in person. So she went out to her car, called them and made an appointment. 🙄

Honestly, I would say it is common sense why they didn't let him book.

The old system at my GP was that the people who queued up got priority for booking same day appointment. They would then sit in the waiting room for ages waiting for that appointment, sharing their germs and taking up space. People who couldn't turn up at 7.30am and wait (parents with kids who needed to get to school, people who work etc) then had no chance of getting an appointment by ringing in because the receptionists were dealing with a queue of 50 people.

Taking phone appointments only is fair to everyone and the most efficient way to do it. Making exceptions would only lead to people going back to turning up at the surgery at the crack of dawn to get their appointment.

Daft. I wouldn't have gone to the car to phone, I would have stayed at reception and phoned.

I stood in front of three receptionists and called using loudspeaker. I have no idea how it works- my guess is receptionists in the back office take calls. All I know is that it told me their lines were busy and to try again later while they stood there looking embarrassed and very not busy. It was my third or fourth day of trying.

@superdupernova 🤣🤣. That's completely mad.

It's absurd.
