Antibiotics for Strep A & Strep throat

Are they still hard to get IE shortages where you are?

Is Strep throat same as strep A or is it a I think that it could turn into that unless treated quickly?

I got the very last ones at the tiny chemist attached to my Drs surgary on Monday.

GP was aware that most of the "main" chemists nearby were out but that ours had just had a delivery.

she said if they had run out to see what ABx they actually had and she would prescribe an alternative.

I'm guessing that by lack of posts the meds may not be in short supply in most of england.

No liquid amoxicillin and no tablet penicillin (liquids available though) in my SE town :) Pharmacists unimpressed by GPs not interacting about supplies before prescribing!

My 6 year old got the last penicillin tablets this morning in our walkin chemist. They said no liquid in any of the Merseyside chemists.
Been a nightmare to get them down her.😥

and a good friend of mine this evening, whose daughter is friends with my DD has been trying to get hold of some for the past 5 hours.

After driving to all the local chemists trying to get the liquid the GP prescribed this morning, the out of hours GP (as by then their own surgery had closed) had to prescribe the tablets, which the childs father has then driven to the out of hours pharmacy to collect.

He has spent most of his evening in the car on a medicine hunt.

She has the tablets to be crushed and mixed with jam, so yes still hard to get here

I got some liquid antibiotic yesterday but I rang about 30 chemists in the north west to find it ☹️

Thanks all. Read yesterday that there is enough but hard to get hold off and those that need it will get one of the meds. Massive spikes in the flu and the indoor gatherings will make it a lot worse
