Anyone had oral surgery to remove back teeth?

I'm due to have a few of my back teeth removed at a dental hospital. The teeth have grown horizontal instead of vertical, so have been pushing into others. This came to light after an x-ray was taken after I complained of jaw pains. Really nervous and not sure what to expect on the day... How long does it take and do they put you to sleep? I'm a nervous patien. Can I have someone with me?

Do you mean impacted wisdom teeth? I had mine surgically removed but it was in 2008 so a long time ago. I had a GA and it took less than an hour I think. I was discharged pretty much as soon as I came round. DH picked me up. You can have someone attend the hospital with you but they can’t go into theatre. The swelling was major so I wouldn’t plan on going to work for a week. Pain manageable. Eating was difficult. Tbh it’s completely different from going to the dentist as you’re totally unconscious so not aware of any of the procedure other than the GA. So the first thing to check is are you getting a GA?

what does your appointment letter say? It should tell you if you are having a general anaesthetic or not because it should advise you not to eat or drink before hand.

I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed at the same time at a dental hospital. I was given a GA.
I was so swollen afterwards I could just about get a straw through my lips but the swelling went down really quickly and, with pain killers it was manageable.
I felt really sorry for the poor young woman with a learning disabilities was next to me in recovery as she clearly couldn’t comprehend what had happened to her!

No one will be allowed in with you if you have a GA. I was with DS when he had 4 teeth removed before his braces were fitted. That was just local anaesthetic though at the usual dentist.

Have you been assessed at the dental hospital yet OP? This should all be covered then.
