Scarlet fever

Took my son to the doctor yesterday and was told he has scarlet fever. I just wondered if the rash can fade on and off? Yesterday was bad but this morning it's more faded. This happened yesterday morning too.

I'm picking up antibiotics later.

My daughter had this a week ago and the rash was there one day and gone the next. They did a swab to check it definitely was scarlet fever as she had the other symptoms too. Did your Gp do a swab?

Thanks for the reply. They didn't do a swab no. My surgery has been a nightmare. Been told to ring around for antibiotics as they're having stock problems. Bit annoyed at the receptionists attitude tbh.

They don’t sound very helpful or on the ball with this. The right antibiotics are hard to find and we had to have our prescription changed to a different penicillin as nothing was in stock. That took another day of waiting which was tense!
If you’ve got antibiotics now I wouldn’t bother with a swab anyway but the swabs can be bought online.

Still have no medicine so am on hold with 111. He's allergic to penicillin so it's a tricky one. Just got to wait and hope he's OK without for now.
