and a close call nearly being admitted for borderline dehydration on Thursday. Ive been giving her regular syringing of re hydration solution at hospital and all day yesterday at home. She hadnt been sick since 10:30 am Thursday morning. Big worrier I am.

She seemed to perk up a lot last night and started making her talky noises, got off the sofa (were shes been languishing for days) and started playing.

I stupidly thought , ahh may be she can have a little drop of milk for bed as she seemed so much more like herself. She took 3oz and then wanted bed. 2 minutes later we heard a cry from her room and went in to find her covered sick . I feel such an idiot thinking back now , why on earth did we lay her down so soon . Im good at mentally kicking myself.

She slept on and off during the night , didnt cry at all, until summoning for breakfast. Shes had a handful of dry cereal ,half a cracker & 30-40 oz of solution by syringe every 5mins and a bit in her cup, this has all stayed down so far. Shes now laying on the sofa next to me and smiling one brief moment. Ive also had little laugh at In the night garden. She never normally pays attention to it except for this programme !

She doesnt want to move though and is still very grumpy. She just wants to lay in bed a lot , which isnt surprising, id be the same , but we really thought she'd start coming round now.

Its hard to know what to let her eat.

Im just not sure what else I can do?

Glad to hear you got out Mels.

Just a thought, if you make the chicken soup or have any in, why not try and give her it in a "special" cup or something but with a straw?

DD used to drink anything through a straw at that age purely because of the novelty of it.

glad she's a bit better and that you've got out for break. my doctor suggested crisps (for the salt) and biscuits (for the sugar). Also there've been a lot of threads in the past about BRAT - banana, rice, apple, toast, which is supposed to be very good when recovering from sickness. Hope everything improves for you xx

So sorry she's still unwell, Melsy - when dd had a vomiting/diarrhoea bug back in November the off-food part lasted for ages. She got really thin, looked like a little spider with big eyes - but soon caught up once her appetite returned. I think it was about two weeks in all

As for crisps and biscuits, go for it - whatever she fancies, for now!

Hope you all get a break soon, we're off Thursday and hope by time I get back you've had some R&R.

How is she mels?

melsy · 04/02/2008 16:46

much much better thank you ,lovely you asked after her. I was thrown out the house yesterday for the afternoon and dh took over (thank fuge for that , was going crazy), he said they were both playing and she managed to polish of a whole bowl of just liquid from the chick soup and noodles.

She had 3 bowls of cereal this morn one with a little soya milk, a slice of banana cake , a teeny bit of avocado and jam on toast for lunch and some popcorn!!!! OH and half a bag of unsalted crisps!

The only BIG BIG problem is this screaming shes doing non stop, BUT after a friend was here this morning, she fell asleep on the rug on her back !!!!!!!

This afternoon shes screamed a lot lot less, and was making silly faces at me. So may be some of it has been sheer exhaustion. friend was suggesting a speech therapist, but thats a whole other thread !

Im now really stumped what to do for their dinner, dd1 wants the bolognese ravioli we have , but thats too strong for dd2. I onyl have corn on cob , mash potato or my emergency fish fingers which dd1 doesnt want , its dinner time in 20mins and I havent a clue??????????????? . Im normally a bit more prepared and organised. Shame would have been good to have some of that frozen cod to go with the above things. [perplexed blank emoticon] !!!!!!!!

Panicking !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
