Hey,

The title says it all really. Started off as Vomitting, high temp + diarrhoea - have had a week of hell - never felt so ill in my life - short hospital trip. Now over the vomiting and the dehydration but the abdominal cramps and diarrhoea is still horrific- I am day 10 of it!
Docs think it's food poisening and I have sent a sample today - from reading, I think it sounds like campylobacter but God knows where from.

Has anyone else had similar? I've now lost 8kg in 10 days. I'm trying to eat bits but have zero appetite and the food (toast, cereal, soup) sends me straight to the toilet.

I would much appreciate anyone who can offer me a light at the end of a dark (and smelly!) tunnel!
Thanks

I've had campylobacter. Very similar symptoms; diarrhoea, vomiting, high temp and severe abdominal pain. I was admitted to hospital for 24 hours with suspected appendicitis as the pain was so bad and I was dehydrated.
A specimen is needed to confirm diagnosis and I had a call from environmental health asking where I did my shopping and what I had eaten. They concluded that a piece of quiche was the likely culprit.
My main recollection is of severe abdominal pain which was relentless. It was not pleasant at all. You have my sympathies.

I've had it too. Wasn't offered any treatment. Gradually returned to normal over a few weeks. Its a horrible bug.

Can you take Cocodamol? I know officially you’re meant to let the bug work it’s way out but the Codeine will slow down your bowel and obviously the painkiller effect will help you feel more comfortable.

Thank you for your replies - nice to know that what I feel will pass!
I was taking cocodmol but the hospital told me to stop as it would only prolong things - don't know if this is true or not!?

Do you have any allergies to carrots? This might not be very helpful for your situation but simmer 4 carrots in 1l of water for 15min and drink the liquid. A glass every hour with a helping of carrots.

I had it when I was 6 weeks postpartum. I felt like I would pass out from all the diarrhoea and vomiting. I was prescribed a mix of probiotics and prebiotics( in India). The tablets helped me get back to normal.

Try a kefir drink or yakult.

I had it too and at one stage thought I was going to die - oh god the pain!!

That, coupled with throwing up and shitting constantly, freezing cold and boiling hot at the same time.

It took me a good 4 weeks before I could confidently leave the house
