What's this under my nail?

Anyone know what this is under my thumbnail? it doesn't hurt. It's been there on and off for a yearish. I can sort of scrap/pick it off but it grows back after a few days. It's only on one thumb.

You'll probs have to zoom in on the pic to see it, it looks like incrusted dirt. But must be some sort of growth. 🤢🤷‍♀️

I don't feel I can go to GP for something so minor.

Thank you

Ask the pharmacist, might be fungal.

Dirt? A bruise?

DragonWasp · 10/12/2022 07:49

When I google fungal nail infections it doesn't look like that at all. My actual nail is fine.

It's defo not dirt or a bruise.

Its just engrained dirt or dye on the skin under the nail. Doesn't look fungal to me. Skin cancer tends to present as a vertical line under the nail and doesn't look like this. I've seen a few at work.

hard skin under the nail can go this colour, I could scalpel that off if you were here.

It's just the normal way a nail grows with bit of dirt on. If I get a build up I would scrape it out with nail scissors after a shower.

DragonWasp · 10/12/2022 08:19

Yeah I scalpel it off which hurts a little and then in 2 days it's back again and it's only on this nail
