MMR Booster - so soon?

ds had his MMR at the end of Jan last year and I just got a letter in asking him to go for his booster. He'll be 4 in March - but not going to school for another year and a half.
I thought the booster was just before they start Primary school?

It is the pre school booster.

My Dd is having hers week after next and she is 4 in May, she is due to start school this september.

She had her first MMR at about 14 months.

But my ds isn't starting school till NEXT september. It seems so close to his first shot of MMR - which he got late due to me being unable to make up my mind about it. So he was almost 3 before he got it.

My ds has just had his measles booster and he is 3 next month

I think they just send these reminders out routinely, because most children that are 4 before the September will be going to school, Im sure if you speak to your Gp you will be able to defer this booster till next year, especially as he had the first one late.

my DD got her MMR booster at 4 and half. If you are worried about it phone your GP

sfxmum · 01/02/2008 13:58

my dd had hers at 12m and is now 32months not attending nursery yet. we were sent a letter late last year inviting to go for a booster.

apparently in this area they are doing it 4-5 months after the first because there has been an outbreak of measles

I still have not taken her for it, not sure when I will

They'll do the booster anytime from 3 months after the first MMR.

The reason given to me for doing it earlier rather than later, for dd1, was that the young ones don't notice/mind it so much

I forgot, for ages, so dd1 had her booster at just 4 though no school till September.

dd2 has just had her first MMR and will probably try and do booster as soon as she forgets (ha) and doesn't yell the minute we go in through surgery doors!

Well, we thought ds1 wouldnt remember but he screamed the place down.

Not sure its actually anything to do with when they start school its just called pre-school booster for convenience. It might be that if you leave it too long the 'boosting' effect isn't as great. FWIW my DS1 is having his week after next he was 3 last September and won't start school til 2009 either.
