Son had a terrible nappy rash at the weekend, bright red and burning. Whilst searching under nappy rash on these boards I saw "Metanium" recommended. What a discovery!! I had never heard of it and it worked by the next day. Brilliant, if there's none in your cupboard - get some!

pamina, i would add get a nasal aspirator; they look horrendous, a big plastic or rubber ball with a little plastic nozzle, but they are brilliant for clearing blocked noses - you squeeze it, stick the very tip in the baby's nostril and let go; it sucks in all the snot, the baby looks gobsmacked but it does the job and then they can feed AND breathe when they have a cold.

Going back slightly I have to say Nelsons homeopathic teething granules (which are nothing more than chamomilla) work amazingly well. I recommend them to any parent with a teething baby.

Hi im looking for advice on getting rid of cradle cap in my 1yr old son Reece, ive been told to try olive oil but has anybody on here actually found it works if not what advice can u give me on other cheap alternatives please

Found a few ideas for cradle cap (if you do a word search on it you will find more ideas and discussions on it )

This one for serious or persistent cradle cap is from a paediatrician and needs to be made up by a chemist:
2 parts ichthyol
2 parts salicylic acid
ether (sufficient to make good solution)
olive oil to make up to 100ml
Rub over scalp morning and night, wipe off excess. Then apply this cream:
1 part crude coal tar
1 part hydrag.ammon.
3 parts cetyl alcohol
10 parts lanette wax SX
10 parts glycerine
water up to 100ml
Continue for a week - if still not cleared up see your HV or GP.

If you prefer a natural remedy try this:
3 tblpns almond oil
contents of 2 x 100 IU vitamin E capsules
Gently warm the oil in a non-metallic saucepan. Pierce the capsules and squeeze contents into oil, stir once or twice. When approx blood warm, massage firmly but gently into scalp, using sml circular movements. Leave up to an hour then comb thru with fine baby comb, lifting scales and combing thru to ends. Wash as usual, using a mixture of 3 tblsns normal baby shampoo with 2 drops tea tree oil and 1 drop lemon oil added.
