Inguinal hernia and bowel issues

I went to the GP the other day with abdo/groin pain and what I thought was enlarged lymph nodes, but it turns out that it’s actually quite a significant ?inguinal hernia
I’ve been referred for an ultrasound, in the first instance and then surgery is very likely, due to the location/pain
I’ve been experiencing some bowel issues since the hernia pain started that feel like IBS and GP seems to think they are hernia related - mostly on/off trapped wind 🙈 and occasional bloating.
Can anyone relate to this pls and suggest anything to relieve it in the shorter term? (obv if it persists, GP will investigate). Stupidly, I ate onion soup last night and now my bowels are objecting, having been fine yesterday 🙈
All GP said is A&E if the hernia pain gets worse, in case it’s strangulated, he didn’t suggest anything for the gut issues
any insight appreciated! Thank you 😊

Watching with interest as I'm in exactly the same position and can find very little online about the hernia and bowel issues unless it's strangulated which I assume not as I'm not in terrible pain etc. Doctor wasn't convinced it's a hernia so I have a scan on Thursday. Had one previously a few years ago for same lump/swelling which at the time they thought was a cyst but all signs seem to point to inguinal hernia. Hope you get some answers
