My 13 yo DS has just found a hard lump under his left nipple. Should we be worried?

Tallulah, don't know the answer but am giving it a bump to hope someone does. Might be an idea to call NHS direct.

Take him to see the doctor to have it checked out. It's probably nothing but you should get it looked at.

Nik72 · 03/12/2004 18:52

If it's behind his nipple it could be a breast bud - not uncommon for them to just be on one side, see what your GP reckons

mears · 03/12/2004 18:54

All 3 of my boys have had lumps under the nipple during puberty. Probably normal but get it checked by GP to be sure.

Sorry link didn't work before. Had to post quickly half hour ago - chips were on the go! Can you cut and paste that. It is very informative, and reassuring but, as others have said, if you are worried, best to take him to the doc. Sorry again about dud link - not v. techy!

mears · 03/12/2004 19:23

Thankyou Mears. I did one once before and it worked! Changed name to avoid embarrassment of falling flat on face" Coward!

DS1 had this when he was about 12, IIRC it was slightly painful too. Doctor said it was hormones and that it would pass in time which it has(15 now)

tallulah · 05/12/2004 10:07

Thanks for the link- it was very reassuring. I've never heard of this & my other 2 boys didn't get it (or didn't mention it). I will take him to get it checked out, to be safe, but it sounds like it's normal. Many thanks to all of you.
