I'm just back from an excruciating trip to the docs (but that's another story) and I've been prescribed this cream. I just read the leaflet and it says:

If you are pregnant
Even at the usual dose, the possibility of a very small risk to the development of a baby in pregnant women canot be entirely ruled out. As with most medicines, the risk is likely to be the greatest in the early stages of development (first 3 months.)

So here's the thing, doc knows am pregnant (am 11 weeks tomorrow) and I assume she knows what she's doing.

But reading that is a bit scary! Dunno what to do, really need the stuff but don't want to do something awful to fetus.

Help!

call the docs - they should call you back and say if ok or not

fletchaaarr · 31/01/2008 16:45

Ring and check.

Can you?

Twiglett · 31/01/2008 16:45

what's the cream .. easy enough to look up

Something I recently found out is that antiobiotics in pregnancy can damage the baby's teeth. My ds2 has a small hole in a front tooth and the dentist said it was something from the womb when the teeth were developing I had 2 lots when I was pregnant due to waters breaking early and the dentist told me that would be the most likely reason.

Phone the docs and a pharmacist and see what they say.

I believe that a lot of the info put on packaging are disclaimers as the product isn't tested on pg woman, so they don't really know either way what the side affects are - iyswim?!

JodieG1 · 31/01/2008 16:48

Oh and it's not a cavity.

Yes def call them and find out if it's ok.

bohemianbint · 31/01/2008 16:48

oh god - I've also just been prescribed anti biotics for a kidney infection.

Will phone now and check.

BB - yuo've probalby checked it out by now but just wanted to pass on what i as told when i was pg and took something. my gp said you/they had to weigh up the risk of the treatment against the risk of the illness to the baby. i rememebr not using an eye cream i was given as i knew it would clear eventually on its own but i did take some tablets as i knew that me being ill could also affect the baby.
hope you've been able to find out, and your kidney infection gets better soon.

Thanks everyone!

I called the pharmacist back who double checked with the doctor. Apparently she wasn't worries about it - but it's hard not to be when you read soemthing like that!
