DVT

Hi, I was diagnosed with a blood clot in common femoral vein two weeks ago, clot is by groin

I’m on anti coagulant (Apixoban) for six months, had seven days of double dose and now on one twice daily

I’ve got a blood test next Tuesday and then a phone call from anti coagulant team on 21/12 to see how I’m doing

Things have improved, the pain and swelling have mostly affected my calf and this has no doubt reduced and I’m keeping mobile and making sure to drink lots and lots of water

However I’m still in pain, specifically when I walk the pain I’m getting in my calf and down towards ankle is still bad enough where I have to stop and rest. It comes in wave’s probably every twenty steps

Also my skin colour doesn’t always look normal? It’s not red but more of an unhealthy blotchy colour

Anyone had a DVT any recovery stories appreciated

Hi, do you mind me asking what you're symptoms were when you got diagnosed? I have a blood condition which means I'm prone to clotting and I have had pain in the femoral artery area at groin for months, swelling in thigh and pain/swelling in ankle.. was sent for physio and they advised it is a vascular issue . Went for scans and they advised there's nothing wrong. But I'm in pain constantly. I take aspirin at the moment hoping that will help but the GP is useless and thinks I'm being paranoid despite family history of dvt.

Hope someone is along soon to advise you ...

Initially I thought I’d pulled something in calf as painful but then pain got very bad to the point I thought I was going to be sick and calf was very swollen and tight

If your skin is an unhealthy blotchy colour I would ring 111 for advice. As you were diagnosed 2 weeks ago and started on anti coagulation I'd have thought you'd have seen an improvement both pain wise and skin tone. Maybe you need subcut or iv anticoagulation if it's a big clot.

I certainly wouldn't wait until the 21st for a review. Gp or 111.
