I need to seriously relax

I’ve posted recently about my gut issues and I know stress is at least partially the cause, no actual physical cause has been found yet despite tests, but I do have a gastroscopy soon.
however I really want to try and get out of a health anxiety spiral as I think this will really help the symptoms.
I had an incredibly stressful couple of months followed by covid and then my gut started playing up.
Can anyone recommend a podcast or YouTube video to help? I’m rubbish at mindfulness or meditation as any ‘concentrate on your body’ makes my anxiety worse!!
I’ve self referred for therapy and have an initial appt next week but I’ve heard it can be a long wait so I want to help myself in the meantime.

Whoops, didn’t mean that first reply,

Hi Justdanceaddict,

I know what you’re going through as I suffer on and off with stomach issues triggered by IBS (stress, anxiety etc) happy to chat about it. My initial advice would be to do things you’re comfortable with, maybe a warm bath, maybe making your favourite meals on a particularly stressful day or wearing something extra comfortable, It doesn’t have to be ‘mindfulness ln the way of meditation. Or you could even do some light yoga stretches

Try this. It's relaxing but you're also doing the actions which occupies your brain from thinking too much. She has lots of videos so you can move to the next when it gets easier.

Try some of the stress management yoga sessions on You Tube with Adriene

Thanks @Char80 - it’s tough isn’t it? I’m sure stress makes symptoms worse which then feeds the anxiety. All the previous stressors have gone & now I’m just anxious about my symptoms. I’ll have a look at the videos recommended.

I know it's not what you asked for, but I find 'focusing' on relaxing can sometimes be counter productive. Something distracting that keeps your brain and hands occupied can help, such as knitting, crochet, sketching, painting - anything really that you enjoy and is absorbing. Exercise, fast walking or running, swimming etc. 🙂

I am in exactly the same situation op. I try not to google symptoms (my main issue) and to get out for a walk everyday. I have given up going to the gym in case it triggers symptoms, but know that this is the opposite of what I should be doing. I also try and read books that offer a bit of escapism and listen to uplifting podcasts.
