Barking unproductive cough

Is there anything that soothes a spasming cough? I have a stubborn unproductive cough that just won't shift. My chest spasms uncontrollably with it.

Is there anything I can take to calm the incessant spasming. It's driving me insane. Talking sets it off and wracks my whole body.

Thick pineapple juice can help, it does the same job as a syrup in coating the throat and also gives you a vitamin C boost.
