severe cough and sore throat

Thought I had covid again but negative LFT. I ache from coughing so much, tired from lack of sleep and am miserable due to a sore throat which feels like crushed glass!
I think I read somewhere it is a virus.

Snap! Dd1 started Sunday and I started today.
I feel like shite. Just want to sleep but too achey. Coughing loads, throat hurting.

Oh me too. DP started Sunday and me yesterday. I've spent 99% of today in bed- absolutely boiling but shivering, dizzy and a hacking cough. Covid LFT was neg but this is way worse than what I personally experienced with covid. Hope everyone's feeling better soon

Also suffering. Third week now and still coughing.

Glad to see it’s not just me. Anyone got any suggestions to relieve it?

All 5 of us have had this in our house (myself, DH and 3 DSs)
It lingers like feck. Started 3 weeks ago and all still suffering in one way or another.
Usual stuff like paracetamol etc barely helped. I loved on honey and lemon, throat sweets, boys had cool mist humidifiers on to help them at night etc. It's awful xx

Yep got it a fortnight ago. Started with spre throat, horrendous cough, lost my voice and now sinuses are playing up, though finally feel like I'm on the mend 14 days later. Never had covid and lfts were negative. Whatever the virus is, it's awful as don't normally get sick.

Have you tried difflam throat rinse?

Thank you for all your suggestions. Going to get my husband to go to the chemist. Hope we all feel better soon. I feel worse than when I had covid though I’d had the jabs.

Nasty bug - the cough kept me awake for three weeks. Only thing that helped me sleep was a codeine-containing cough syrup - wish I’d got that earlier. Fatigue lasted for a couple of weeks after

@PicnicPie , I'm having the same symptoms. Loss my voice too. Were your sore throat viral or bacterial?

I've got something like this atm, too. I can't help but feel it's covid again but knowing wouldn't make any practical difference as I'm too ill to go out anyway.

@Pepperama What's the brand name of the codeine cough syrup please? I thought codeine was controlled these days.

I am struggling with the same symptoms currently. To the point where I'm coughing that hard I'm going lightheaded and it has caused me to have nosebleeds. I can't sleep because either I'm coughing all night or I dose off and then the pain of swallowing wakes me up.

I'm shattered as haven't slept for the last 4-5 nights, so much so that I was nodding off whilst driving to and from work yesterday.

I think I'm calling the doctors later today, which I've never had to do for a cough and sore throat before.

I had this last week, and DH followed a few days behind.

If it's any help, the truly dreadful bit with the throat and feeling like death passed in three days. I was then tired for another three days and since then have been fine except for producing an astounding amount of snot. Still coughing too, though at least it doesn't hurt. As someone else said; lingers like fuck.

Good luck, OP. There's nothing much to take that will help with a virus, just got to see it out
