Prolapse diagnosis tests

Hello
I suspect I have a pelvic organ prolapse, but I'm so nervous about going to the doctor for it. Can someone please tell me exactly what the GP will do during the exam? Is it just an internal exam or external exam too? And after this, can they refer straight to physio if needed or is one always referred to a gynaecologist?
I think knowing more might help me make thr appointment! Thanks

My GP didn't examine me but referred me straight to a urogynaecologist - who did examine me and then referred me to women's health physio for a further examination and to teach me pelvic floor exercises.

I was then discharged and told to come back if I wanted a hysterectomy or repair
